Week 23: The Dangers of Calling your wife Fat & Silent Treatment

Additional small understandings, waiting on our passports and more unfortunate news to start 2017

Sorry for the delayed post……..

So since Christmas, it’s been a pretty hectic two weeks. We worked on getting our Visas in another town outside of where my parents live, just to fix the final details prior to leaving to the US and A. “3-5 days and you’ll get the passports sent back to you” – In great spirits of having gone through the interview relatively headache free (we made sure to be prepared) – we stayed with some friends, since the embassy was in another town. Following the interview, we cruised around the city, got some munch, had dinner with our friends family, where we were quizzed on all things “how does it feel to be parents soon”. We were as always cautiously optimistic and expressed our ongoing excitement through wifeys pregnancy.

News VIII: Christmas is all about giving…… to the baby

Christmas and the unfortunate realization that it’s no longer about presents for YOU

When baby comes, presents disappear
Baby – clothes + books + painting set (age 21 weeks), Mum – Pearl earrings (cause that’s what she wanted), Dad – Nothing…..

So, these last two weeks have been interesting. Beyond the funeral, carrying and lowering the casket into the grave and giving our condolences to my aunt, who is still dealing with the idea of being alone this Christmas – the whole experience did bring forth the notion that time is limited, which made this Christmas all the more special with family. In Norway we celebrate Christmas on the evening of the 24th, stuffing our faces with apple filled roasted duck, with potato dumplings and red cabbage with loads of gravy. This, followed by of course my favorite part of the evening, where I get to open presents – only this year was different. Continue reading “News VIII: Christmas is all about giving…… to the baby”

News VIII: Week 19 – Ze Village life – and another F*CK you by 2016

A quick insight into our last doctor visit in Japan, leaving Asia after 23 years and joining my side of the family for ze Village life in Norway.

……. no words… everyone that shares a bed with someone else can relate.

The preparations for our move have now been finalized and after a quick visit to our super hero doctor, who after an ultrasound gave us another positive update, spirits were high on finally leaving Asia after 23 years. At 19 weeks, we could finally see the babies features, whilst our ‘daughter to be’ was happily sucking her thumb (or the doctor indicated it could have been her foot – our little one is a yoga prodigy already) and had a preliminary check up of all of her vital organs – all of which were working as expected. Heart rate was at a solid 165bpm and we were surprised by a more insightful, albeit ‘weird’ 3D rendered image. I’ve pictured an actual 3D ‘pixar-esque’ visual, but was more surprised to receive what reminded me of a fossil halfway caught in a rock, with elements protruding from it – picture instead. News VI; Things are getting Hella Emotional

Dealing with wifeys mood swings and planning our big move to the USA with a trip to visit family just before Christmas.

pregnancy glow? yeah right
Y u no glow wife!!!

Wifey is approaching week 17+ and I’ve noticed mood fluctuations more so than before. Signs were subtle, until blatantly obvious – she cries whenever someone else cries in a movie, gets angry at mosquitos and yelled at me for asking her to walk the dog and to clean up her munch wrappers, which are everywhere!!! This lead to her calling me an “asshole” and that I was responsible for her pregnant misery (“YOU DID THIS TO ME!” – whilst pointing at her belly and attacking me with icy glares). I bite my tongue and keep thoughts to myself (“no ice cream of chocolate for you…. “) in retaliation. Continue reading “News VI; Things are getting Hella Emotional”

News V; Boy or Girl… the Road to Week 16

Discovering whether or not we are going to be parents to a boy or girl and unveiling wifeys pregnancy to the rest of the family.

whether it's a boy or girl - that's the question
Cause mum is really pleasant lately

Throughout October 2016, we were extensively travelling from Asia to North America due to work related trade shows and client visits. Due to the amounts of radiation in the air, we were told that in order to protect your baby, you can get these radiation belly protectors, which I sternly reminded wifey to wear prior to getting on the plane. Even though we had to work a lot, I was proud of wifey keeping it together, even though the nausea continued to linger, like some dark cloud in a windless valley.
